"The things you don't choose that makes you who you are"

I have never been a believer in what they call "world citizen".
The other day, watching the movie "Gone Baby Gone", I found that my thoughts about this subject where perfectly expressed:

"I always believed
it was the things you don't choose
that makes you who you are.

 Your city.
Your neighborhood.
Your family.

People here take pride in these things.
Like it was something they'd accomplished."

The screeplay of the movie was writen by Ben Affleck and Aaron Stockard, from a novel by Dennis Lehane, so I guess this part may be taken from the novel.
