EUROVISION

So one year has passed since the 2016 Eurovision contest, and one thing seems clear: nobody remembers the song that won for Ukraine, making it clear that it was a political decission.

If you doubt it, just check the Spotify streams of the Eurovision 2016 songs: the winner of the festival is the 18th song most listened.

Even the Estonian and Finish songs, that did not qualify for the final, had more streams than the winner...

"Given Ríos Montt's staunch anticommunism and ties to the United States, the Reagan administration continued to support the general and his regime, paying a visit to Guatemala City in December 1982. During a meeting with Ríos Montt on December 4, Reagan declared: "President Ríos Montt is a man of great personal integrity and commitment. ... I know he wants to improve the quality of life for all Guatemalans and to promote social justice."

Reagan claimed Guatemala's human rights conditions were improving and overturned the arms embargo imposed on Guatemala by president Carter in 1977, by agreeing, in January 1983, to sell millions of dollars worth of military hardware, including weapons and vehicles, to the country's government. The decision was taken in spite of records concerning human rights violations, by-passing the approval from Congress. Meanwhile, a then-secret 1983 CIA cable noted a rise in "suspect right-wing violence" and an increasing number of bodies "appearing in ditches and gullies." In turn, Guatemala was eager to resurrect the Central American Defense Council, defunct since 1969, to join forces with the right-wing governments of El Salvador and Honduras in retaliations against the leftist Sandinista government of Nicaragua." Inhofe's first "king" was General Sani Abacha, dictator of Nigeria—Africa's most populous nation, as well as the US's fourth-largest supplier of petroleum. Abacha was known for two qualities: the greed that led him to steal $3 billion from his country, and the ruthlessness that made that theft possible. His execution of dissident writer Ken Saro-Wiwa in 1995—two years before Inhofe's first visit—made international headlines. Abacha already had a long record of brutally dispatching opponents, many of whom happened to be critics of the US and the oil industry. Despite the efforts made in his website to defend Babangida's legacy, the accusations of attacks on human rights under his Presidency are too solid, especially the ones involving him in the death of Dele Giwa, a magazine editor critical of Babangida's administration. [Wikipedia]
