The Two Unexplained Child Disappearances That Shocked Spain

During the 80s there were two child disappearences that shocked Spain and that, to this day, haven't been solved.

The first one took place on June 25, 1986. That day, Juan Pedro Martínez Gómez was travelling with his parents in his father's tank truck, when the truck had a terrible accident. Juan Pedro's parents died that day, but inexplicable, Juan Pedro was never found, dead or alive. The first hypothesis of the police was that the body of the boy had been dissolved in the acid that filled the broken tank of the trunk. But this explanation was proven impossible. Where was the kid then?

The accident had been caused by the excessive speed of the truck, suicidal in the way down, reaching even 140 km/h. But even more strange, the analysis of the tacograph revealed that, on the way up, the truck had stopped 12 stops in less than 20 km, several of only 1 or 2 seconds, and the longest of half a minute.

Approximately one year later, in a new search in the truck remains, the police found illegal drugs. That brought up the most plausible hypothesis: the truck was carrying the drugs from the origin or from some point in the middle of the trip. The former possibility, that it was in the truck from the origin, is more likely, as the drug was found in a hidden space surrounded by acid. The 12 stops could be explained by an other vehicle (some witnesses stated that after the accident, a white van stopped and the passangers approached the truck), stopping them. One of the longest stops could be explained by the drug dealers stopping the truck to didnap the kid, as a "warranty".

Less than one year after the disappearence of Juan Pedro, David Guerrero Guevara, known as the "painter child", disappeared in Málaga, tenía 13 años cuando, el 6 de abril de 1987, never to be seen again. He was going to a gallery where one of his paintings was shown among paintings of recognized local artists. He was officially last seen walking to the bus stop only 250 m from his home. He never arrived to the gallery or to the painting lesson he was supossed to attend later. But that day the Queen of Spain was visiting Malaga, how could be a kid kidnapped in broad daylight?

There were only a few leads, but the most promising was one that involed a Swiss national, that was very similar to an sketch that the missing kid had given as a present to a classmate:

In the end of 2019, this sketch reappeared in the most unexpected way: the classmate that had given the sketch to the police in 1987 found it in her mailbox, a sketch that should have been in police possession. Also, some anonymous notes have been recived by the family in the last months. The brother, together with a journalist, made a new investigation, and found witnessess stating that he had not only visited the gallery, but that he had even arrived to the place where the painting lesson was taking place, the club El Cenachero. But he never attended the lesson, so he would have disappeared there.

The Sad Story of Ainara

Picture the scene: around the year 2000, in Spain, a man goes to the police and tell them an increible story. He says that around 30 years ago, he was a member of a cult. And that a couple that were also members of the cult, had a baby with the sole purpose of sacrificing her for the cult. The baby, a girl, was named Ainara, and she was, according this witness' account, sacrificed when she was only 14 months old.

The police opened an investigation, interviewed several alleged members of the cult, whose names the repentant had given them. According the news, it was proven that the couple had had a baby, but they baby disappeared. According the parents version, they were on a trip in the UK when the baby died. They buried her there and that is why they can't provide a death certificate...

But the police could not find any document proving that version.

According the repentant's version the murdered baby was buried in a forest near Lesaka, in the region of Navarra, but being such a small baby, and considering how a forest can change in 30 years (besides that probably the repentant didn't remember so precissely where the baby had been buried), make it very difficult for the body to be found.

There are two thoughts that came into my mind after knowing of such story... The first is how incredibly sad the story of this baby, this girl named Ainara, was. Born to be sacrificed by your own parents, only 14 months of life with parents that are absolute monters.

The second thought is about punishment. Seven years have passed since this story broke into the news. Nobody has been ever arrested or charged, and unfortunately, it is very unlikely it will ever happen. Not if the body of the girl is not found, which seems even more unlikely. So, there will hardly be human justice.

Now if you belive in God, you can be sure that these human monsters will be punished in the other life. But for those who don't believe, these criminals will never face justice. And that thought is maybe as horrible as the crime itself...

The story behind Aylan Kurdi's death

This is one of those photos that from time to time shock the world. They are published in the cover of many newspapers, apear in the news, and are shared in Twitter and Facebook. Usually, there is only a headline with the photo.

You can not imagine anything more sad than what we see in this photo. So it is human, to want to stop it. And here is were propaganda comes in, when the headline is shaped, usually by mass media.

But, for some unknown reason, when we dig behind these iconic photos, we usually find stories that differ from the headline

This photo as many other before had been used to model public opninion. We can see a good example of how this photo changed public opinion (and therefore political agenda) in these two news from the UK: Cameron 'deeply moved' by Syria boy death and the next day David Cameron: UK to accept 'thousands' more Syrian refugees, or as described in The Independent:

"2 September: pictures of three-year-old Aylan al-Kurdi, drowned in his Syrian family’s attempt to reach Greece from Turkey, provoke a wave of public sympathy for refugees.

3 September: the slogan ‘refugees welcome’ goes viral; 250,000 people in 48 hours back an ‘Independent’ petition calling for Britain to take its fair share of refugees. Mr Cameron says Britain will fulful its ‘moral responsibilities’.
"

But, as usual, the complete story was hidden from the public.

Some facts:

1. Abdullah Kurdi was living and working in Istanbul before the sea crossing
2. He and his family were renting a small house paid for by his sister
3. Kurdi worked for £5.50 a day supervising women making Islamic garments
4. A passenger on the doomed boat claims Kurdi was working with the gang

Let's put the allegations made on the last point aside (Second passenger claims Aylan Kurdi’s father was working with people smugglers and was driving the boat on which his son died), because they don't change the point. The point is:

"But once the family settled in Turkey nearly a year ago, could the Kurdis still truly be classed as refugees in the same plight as those sheltering in a dusty tented city?"

So they were not refugees fleeing from death and destruction but migrants looking for a better life. A better life or better teeth for his father...?

I have read many times that the real reason the family took this dangerous trip was because the child's father, Abdullah Kurdi, wanted new teeth. But I couldn't find the source of this version, so I didn't want to publish it.

But here is the source: child's aunt, Teema Kurdi explains in Sky News:

The situation is that Abdullah does not have any teeth. Another story about it. So I been trying to help him fix his teeth. But is gonna cost me 14,000 and up to do it. He need teeth implant. So when I told him there is now way I can get you the money in one time because dentist need to get paid right away and Western Union usually – if I send them the money – they only allowed 1,000 at a time – not under their name of course – has to be a third person to collect the money and give it them. So I said to him, actually my dad, he come up with the idea, he said to me, "I think if they go to Europe for his case and for our future, I think he should do that, and then we’ll see if he can fix his teeth." And that’s what I did three weeks ago.

Spotlight (2015) / Deliver us from Evil (2006)

"But whoever shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me,
it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck,
and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
"
Matthew 18:6

I saw Spotlight (2015) three weeks ago. Great journalists movie. And a delicate subject, especially for a Christian, raised Catholic, like me.

It made me remember I had seen the documentary Deliver us from Evil (2006) some years ago. I thought it was a great documentary, very painful, but necessary. Only criticism I had about it, was the allegations made against the Pope, which were completely ungrounded and not reasoned in the documentary.

It's a difficult subject to discuss, especially with Anti-clericalists (I am thinking of writing some thoughts about this Twitter conversation I had with one singer).

Nobody denies that this horrible crimes took place. Nobody denies that they were covered. But there are some facts that people who use these crimes against the Catholic Church forget:

- Some individuals do not represent the whole Catholic Church.
- The Catholic Church doesn't represent the whole Christendom.

The ironic thing is that the same people who forget these facts, are the first to claim them when it refers to crimes commited on behalf of other religions (as I already discussed here -in spanish-). But there are two essential differences:

- These crimes were not commited on behalf of religion.
- These crimes are not granted by the sacred writings; not only this, they are clearly against them.

Christians belief in Christ's teachings. The New Testament is were Jesus teachings are given. And, as far as I remember, there are ONLY TWO passages of The New Testament, were death penaly is considered, and one of them is the one that opens this entry, Matthew 18:6:

"But whoever shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me,
it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck,
and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
"

I think I am not the only one that thinks that these crimes are the worst someone can commit, even worse than murder. And these are the only crimes that make me believe in death penalty. In the case of priests, this wrath is even stronger, and so is my desire for punishement. I can not think of forgiveness for child abusers and surely I do not want to forgive child abusers in te catholic church.
