Windows subtitulat

L'obsessió del PP valencià per eliminar qualsevol rastre de català a la comunitat valenciana els porta a fer coses com aquesta:

"El passat 7 de febrer, la presidenta de Microsoft Ibérica, María Garaña, i el president de la Generalitat Valenciana, Francisco Camps, van presentar a València el CLIP (Captions Language Interface Pack) de valencià"

Fins aquí sembla una tecnologia innovadora, fins que llegim el quefa el CLIP: "una aplicació que subtitula en valencià els menús del Windows 7, Office 2010 i altres programes informàtics" [SoftValencia]

Més explicaciones d'aquest gran avenç informàtic:

"Este producte és el resultat de l’acord que Microsoft i la Generalitat Valenciana signaren fa un any per impulsar la difusió i ús del valencià en l’àmbit de les tecnologies de la informació i comunicació (TIC). L’adaptació d’este producte l’ha duta a terme l’Àrea de Política Lingüística de la Secretaria Autonòmica d’Educació de la Generalitat. Segons Microsoft, amb esta tecnologia els usuaris poden així incorporar el valencià als seus ordinadors.
Igualment, el president valencià i altres membres del govern han donat a entendre que per primera vegada el valencià era present a les tecnologies de la informació i la comunicació (TIC). Es pot veure un exemple d’esta tecnologia en este vídeo."

A la nota aclaratoria de SoftValencia hi ha una reflexió molt interessant:

"La tecnologia CLIP presentada per Microsoft és inèdita: no coneixem cap programa informàtic que utilitze la subtitulació. Quan una empresa o una comunitat vol adaptar un producte als usuaris, el que s’ha fet fins ara és traduir el producte totalment o parcialment. Microsoft ja fa traduccions a l’estàndard general de la llengua catalana mitjançant paquets LIP (Language Interface Pack). En este sentit, un paquet CLIP és un clar pas arrere en relació a un paquet LIP, i du a l’extrem la supeditació del valencià a l’espanyol o l’anglés."

To Google or not to Google

There has been for a long time now a growing controversy wether which big technological company is the worse, which is the "big demon". Some say it is Microsoft, others that it is Apple and the last ones that it is Google.

I don't think that any of these companies is to be blame of all the disasters of the world (as it seems listening to some people) but I do have preference for Google.

Why? Mainly because it has given us the best searcher of the web (www.google.com), the best e-mail (www.gmail.com), the best web based navigation (maps.google.com) and many other great services. Google Docs (docs.google.com) or Google Reader (reader.google.com) are other great services from Google.

They have plenty of information about my work, my tastes, my hobbies, even some secrets (Do you always sign out from your Google account when you surf?) but it is information that I wanted, or accepted, to give them. They haven't placed a virus in my computer, I have allowed Google to have this info. You can argue that most people are not aware of all the information that Google has of them, but it is not the company's fault, but their own, for not caring enough of their privacy.

It is all a question of trust. There is many other places and professionals who have secrets that you don't want to become public (banks, doctors, etc.) so it is not like Google is the first company to have our secrets.

While Microsoft create products in order to satisfy everybody's desires (and sometimes fail -Vista-), and Apple creates products to satisfy their own desire, Google has produced some of the most helpful and efficient tools of the internet to make our life easier.
